Daniel
John Ford Padilla (born
April 26, 1995) popularly known as Daniel(DJ) Padilla is a Filipino
actor and recording artist, a talent of ABS-CBN and Star Magic. He
hails from one of the most popular clans of Philippine showbiz, being
the son of actor Rommel
Padilla and singer Karla Estrada, and because of his natural,
strong appeal and popularity among women, he is more often compared
to his uncle Robin
Padilla who became famous for his "bad boy" image.
2010-2011: Youth-oriented shows
This young actor, DJ's first acting stint was in 2010 when he starred in a minor role in Gimik 2010, a remake of the hit 90's Filipino youth-oriented show. Plating the role as Daniel Ledesma and was paired to teen actress Julia Montes.
Growing Up, another youth-oriented show by ABS-CBN, was considered to be Daniel Padilla's big break. The show beat its top-rating competitor during its pilot episode, and it continued to dominate throughout its run. The show was where his now very popular onscreen pair-up with , known as KathNiel, started to gain followers. He reportedly replaced his real life friend Albie Casiño who was originally given the role as Kathryn's leading man.
2012-present: Debut as a Primetime Actor and Singer
After two consecutive Sunday youth-oriented shows, Daniel finally landed a role in a primetime television series titled Princess And I alongside his Growing UP team-up partner, Kathryn Bernardo. He plays Gino dela Rosa, a character whom he describes as "a swaggering rich kid who will change and sacrifice a lot for the sake of love". The romantic-comedy royalty-themed series, which is currently airing, is doing well in the ratings, having already reached the 40% mark and placing second behind Walang Hanggan.On May 28, 2012, he released his debut self-titled album, Daniel Padilla. The album has six tracks with the carrier single Hinahanap-hanap Kita which is also featured in his primetime show Princess And I. According to Star Records producer Jonathan Manalo, Daniel's debut album "flew off the shelves" and sold more than 10,000 copies in less than a week.
On
June 17 of the same year, Daniel was given a Gold Record Award for
the outstanding sales of his debut album, proving the phenomenal
popularity of the teen actor. Boy Abunda has been quoted into saying
that "In 5 years, Daniel Padilla is going to be one of the
biggest stars of Philippine showbiz". Apart from high ratings
for his show and a gold award for his album, his mall shows around
the country also pull in a lot of fans. Reportedly, one of these
shows was even canceled due to a stampede threat.
In
less than a month, he is again part of another album, Love
Songs from Princess and I,
which is the official soundtrack of his primetime
show. He has two singles in the album, Hinahanap-hanap
Kita
and Gusto
Kita,
which he sings with his co-stars Khalil
Ramos and Enrique
Gil. He also shot a music video for his upcoming single release
of Prinsesa.He and Kathryn Bernardo are slated to do a movie (working title Sisteraka) with Vice Ganda and Kris Aquino for the 38th Metro Manila Film Festival.
